Tobe Nwigwe has a lot to celebrate. From being hand-picked to act in the big Blockbuster film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts to being nominated for Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammys to now doing the official song for Steph Curry’s Underrated documentary on Apple TV, Tobe continues to inspire audiences all around the world that if he can make it, so can you.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, the Nigerian recording artist cemented himself as a mainstay in the music industry, taking what he learned on the football field and applying that same work ethic into perfecting his craft.

And throughout all his endeavors, Tobe makes one thing clear: he loves his wife Fats. In fact, she’s the one twisting his hair in all his Get Twisted freestyles, which created a buzz of its own and garnered him a devout following on Youtube.

Sheen Magazine had the pleasure of speaking to Tobe Nwigwe about his relationship with his wife, and an epic story with Erykah Badu.

How’s your Friday going?

I’ll be honest, Friday is going phenomenal. Jst made it back in from Turks and Caicos, living life on the beach with my best friend.

Who’s your best friend? Your wife?

100%. None other.

Were you guys on vacation?

No doubt.

How did Get Twisted Sunday’s come about?

That #SoGone challenge, I don’t know if you remember that. My wife, it was my girl at the time, was like, “Yo, maybe you should do the challenge.” But everybody was talking about their relationships in their challenge. I feel like she was just trying to get me to talk about our relationship with each other, but I did it. Once I did it, my guy CJ who’s a big brother said “yo, you should do that every week.” I listened, and I did it every weekend. I built a platform and momentum, it took on a life of its own for sure.

Was she doing your hair every Sunday consistently?

100%.

Talk about the bond you guys share, and creating an empire together.

My wife is the greatest human being in the world to me. She is my best friend in real life. We really love each other. We can annoy each other every 45 minutes to an hour, and still be locked in 100%. I promise you, locked in 100%. It’s the most challenging, beautiful, amazing, phenomenal relationship that I’ve ever had in my life. It constantly forces me to be my best self, grow. It’s the best, I really love it.

That’s inspiring, because it be the wild wild west out here.

Nah, it really do. I know you didn’t ask, but I’ma tell the story. Look, we were just on tour with Erykah Badu. That ain’t even the best part. First of all, that is crazy. Ain’t that insane? We on tour with Erykah Badu and Yasiin Bey. In Nashville, the day after the show, she was DJing at Soho House. Me and Fat were there, just chillin’. In the cut, in the corner, eating our little food. You know, Fat likes to sip a little bit.

So Erykah Badu started playing songs, playing random songs that she liked. She played the first song she got with Andre 3000. Now look, I went the long route telling this story, but I’m only telling the story because when she started playing that song with Andre 3000, it got to the part where it says “don’t change, don’t change.” It started playing that song, and I almost already crying. Because I started thinking about yo, I really love this woman, and I feel bad for people who don’t really get to experience love like this. Somebody who really loves you, and you love them 100%. Y’all ready to go to the ends of the earth, really until death do you part.

I started thinking about it like man, a lot of people chillin’ in here, they ain’t really got nobody like that right now. But man, this is such a phenomenal feeling. I am 100% with this woman, and this feels so good. It feels so good.
