Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Ja Rule and Sei Less Restaurant hosted a special Mother’s Day luncheon to uplift 40 mothers (and their children) that have been adversely impacted by the criminal justice system.

The private luncheon was held at Sei Less Restaurant in Manhattan, where Ja Rule and Sei Less co-founder Ivi Shano treated the mothers to some of its most popular menu items including beijing chicken, filet mignon with broccoli, chicken satays, rock shrimp tempura, chicken wontons, veggie lo mein and much more.

Ja Rule and Ivi partnered up with The Ladies of Hope Ministries and REFORM Alliance on the event to ensure the mothers and their children had a Mother’s Day celebration to remember. As the mothers dined, Ja sat down with them, listened to their stories navigating probation/parole, shared his personal experiences with the criminal justice system, took photos and more.

For context, The Ladies of Hope Ministries is an organization committed to empowering women to create sustainable lives post-incarceration. They drive change in the social justice movement by connecting them to housing, food, healthcare, living wage employment, entrepreneurship opportunities, education, and more. Meanwhile, REFORM is committed to transforming probation and parole throughout the United States by changing laws, systems, and culture. The organization is working to replace America’s criminal justice system with a restorative approach that is fair, accountable, and invested in rehabilitation.

As you may know, Sei Less is the acclaimed Asian Fusion restaurant that opened in NYC in January 2022 and has quickly turned into a destination venue for the biggest names in music, sports, entertainment such as Cardi B, Kevin Hart, Mark Wahlberg, Travis Scott, Ice Spice, Kevin Durant and many more. Sei Less is no stranger to giving back to its community with its philanthropic efforts, having previously collaborated with hip-hop artist Lola Brooke for a holiday giveback around Thanksgiving to Children of Promise in Brooklyn in 2023. Sei Less co-owner Dara Mirjahangiry and Lola Brooke treated the young attendees (whose lives have been touched by the criminal justice system) to a delightful array of dishes from Sei Less.
