Shanise, a retired Army Veteran is the owner of Johari and Lou Artisan Soul Stones based in Maryland. Her business offers artisan collectibles including jewelry, crystals, and essential oils. She also offers energy healing services.

What inspired you to start JOHARI & LOU Artisan Soul Stones?

JOHARI & LOU Artisan Soul Stones was created after being diagnosed with PTSD from a traumatic event I encountered while serving in combat. I was placed in a year-long therapeutic program that introduced me to mindful practices. Throughout the process I became engulfed in self-healing, specifically energy healing. That introduction led to obtaining energy certifications, pursuing a degree in complementary and alternative health and practices that I wanted to share with other service members and people like myself within my community.

What makes your business different from other wellness practitioners in the space?

There are many practitioners who offer a variety of healing services and it’s equally important to have options for varied needs. As a Holistic based business JOHARI & LOU Artisan Soul Stones’ modalities are rooted in energy. It is our mission to help clients and customers reach optimal wellness for the mind, body and spirit through energetic healing and education. Selling a crystal is meaningless if our customers are not educated on how to properly apply energetic techniques, and this we offer on our website and social platforms free or as a personalized consult.

Why do you think there is a lack of representation of Black women in the wellness space?

It is my opinion There’s a lack of representation in the wellness space for black women, because for so long our voices have been muted. It is no secret that black women are significantly impacted by systematic racial injustices.

It is the same injustices that impact people of color and especially black women which prohibits us from being inclusive within wellness spaces where we feel comfortable to heal.  Creating our own wellness space will allow a presence to grow and offer BIPOC options in areas that lack inclusiveness.

Who is your business looking to impact?

JOHARI & LOU Artisan Soul Stones hopes to lead individuals who seek a holistic wellness journey as well as those who are currently practicing into a self-healing community Our goal of impact includes serving as a source for information and holistic wellness tools.
