Killer Mike deserves all his flowers. Putting on for his city of Atlanta at all times, the rapper, politician, actor, and activist has just as much influence in real life as he does in the rap game, and he continues to use his platform for the greater good. Now, he returns with his first solo album in over a decade, titled MICHAEL.

On Tuesday, May 23rd, Killer Mike hosted a private album listening for MICHAEL at the Masonic Lodge inside the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. The event was reminiscent of a church service, as programming kicked off with a choir on stage, delivering gospel music that set the tone for the evening to follow.

Out today, this serves as Mike’s most raw and vulnerable project to date, as he happily ran through each track and explained the inspiration. He kicked things off by remembering himself at 9 years old, a buck-toothed kid who always wanted to be a rapper and MC. Fast forward to 2023, he’s doing the damn thang.

The project is spearheaded by lead singles “RUN,” “TALKIN THAT SHIT,” “DON’T LET THE DEVIL,” and “MOTHERLESS.” But what really stuck out were the all-star features, from Future, Andre 3000, 6lack, Mozzy, 2 Chainz, Curren$y, DJ Paul, Kaash Paige, BLXST, and many more. DJ Paul and Yelawolf were present, along with D Smoke, O.T. Genasis, and AD.

Killer Mike also joked that his group, Run The Jewels, is the best rap duo… “unless Outkast reunites tomorrow.”
