Hollywood was buzzing this week as I covered the red carpet for BET+’s hit comedy series, Churchy. It was such an incredible experience to interview the cast and creative team and capture the energy of a night that was more than just a premiere — it was a celebration of community, culture, and storytelling.

From the moment the first guest arrived, it was clear this wasn’t just about television — it was about representation. Events like this matter because they give authentic stories, characters, and experiences a platform to shine.

The atmosphere reflected careful planning and attention to detail. The Linwood Dunn Theater was beautifully decorated, setting the perfect backdrop for photos, interviews, and red-carpet moments. Every element felt intentional, creating an experience that was both professional and celebratory.

As always, BET+ delivered on its reputation for high-quality productions, with staff making sure everything ran smoothly and every guest felt taken care of. It was an environment where talent, press, and fans alike could fully enjoy the celebration of Churchy Season 2.

I had the chance to speak with Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks, the creator and star of Churchy, who shared how comedy and meaningful reflection go hand in hand in Season 2. You can watch the full interview here. The other cast members brought their dynamic energy to the carpet as well:

Mark JP Hood (Rodney Joseph) brought the laughs with off-screen humor that perfectly matched his on-screen antics, while Jasmine Luv (Bree) highlighted the sense of community her character’s diner brings to the show. Nic Few (Pastor Teddy) shared the thrill of stepping into one of the series’ most devious roles, and Tabitha Brown (Mayor Dana Wilson) lit up the carpet with her signature warmth as she reflected on bringing authority, compassion, and heart to her character. Quin Walters (Sharon Walters) offered thoughtful insights on embodying a character full of strength and complexity, adding new depth to the storyline. Tahir Moore (Calvin Crooks) kept the energy high as he teased what audiences can expect from his unpredictable and comedic role. And I also had the pleasure of chatting with LukeTillman, one of the youngest cast members, whose charm and excitement about being part of the series were contagious.

After
all of my interviews wrapped, the celebration really came to life. KevOnStage set the tone with heartfelt opening remarks about how far Churchy has come, followed by powerful wordsfrom Jason Harvey of BET+ and Jamal Henderson of The SpringHill Company. The cast then sat down for a candid Q&A, beautifully moderated by Sylvia Obell, who pulled out the kind of gems only she can. The vibe stayed electric all night with DJ Myles P on the music. The evening was unforgettable — fun, unpredictable, and deeply rooted in community, just like the series itself.

At the screening, Jason Harvey, EVP and Head of BET+, shared a moment that really resonated with everyone in the room: “I think back to about a year and a half ago, where somebody said, hey you gotta see that Kev On Stage skit called Churchy, it’s on YouTube, you gotta check it out. I was like, YouTube? Why isn’t it on BET+? Fast forward, we put it on BET+.”

The lesson? Great ideas will always find their way to the right stage. What starts small, even on a platform like YouTube, can grow into something so powerful that major networks want in. Never underestimate your gift. Keep creating, keep putting your work out there, and trust that the right people will recognize it in time.

For me, covering moments like this is about more than interviews—it’s about amplifying the creative voices pushing boundaries in television. It’s about shining a light on the storytellers who take risks, the platforms that believe in them, and the cultural impact their work has on audiences who finally get to see themselves represented in fresh, authentic ways. Nights like these remind me why I love what I do: capturing the energy, the vision, and the voices that are shaping the future of entertainment.

The wait is over: ALL 10 episodes of Churchy Season 2 are streaming NOW on BET+! This is an incredible series, enjoy it!
