Christa Santos is the president of CKS Marketing Communications. She has been in this business for nearly twenty years. Santos has worked with several small to medium-sized companies; therefore, her working experience is diverse. She loves to be there for people and live a spark of positivity everywhere she goes.
“My background started in the nonprofit industry, working with organizations such as the Arthritis Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and MS Society, and evolved to working with entrepreneurs and startups. My passion is helping others and making a positive impact in all areas where I serve.”
Her journey started during her college days. After college, she worked for Disney and other nonprofit organizations in administrative roles and then in fundraising.
Later, she started volunteering in marketing and public relations, which allowed her to work with a nonprofit organization that helped entrepreneurs attract investment and spin out companies from university research. She worked with the largest university in the nation, managing their marketing, public relations, and events for innovation and entrepreneurship activities, which then helped evolve her work as an entrepreneur and later create and manage her own business.
Despite her busy life as an entrepreneur, Christa Santos knows how to keep a work-life balance. She prioritizes her family life and ensures that she gives them time every day. If something comes up during her personal time, she doesn’t hesitate to decline it or pass it on to someone else.
“Your job will never love you back – only your family will, so that is my first priority. That being said, I always strive to exceed my client’s expectations, so learning to say “No” to some things and then delegating or scheduling others helps. I also strive to create collaborative relationships with others to help if I need extra support.”
She believes that being successful does not mean that you have to work around the clock and always be loaded with extra tasks. Christa Santos states, “Success is having enough work to sustain you and being fulfilled.”
What keeps Christa Santos motivated is the fact that she is determined to make a difference in any way possible.
“If I feel that I can contribute positively to a project, client, individual, organization, or effort, I am motivated to participate and give my full effort. I also respect those that work hard and have a collaborative spirit.”
Here are a few tips that Christa Santos believes one must incorporate in one’s life to become successful.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff – It’s been said many times, but don’t argue to get the last word. Don’t make a big deal out of small things, and look at the big picture.
- Rome wasn’t built in a day – You don’t need to prove anything by overdoing it. Do what you can to do your best and give it attention. Start small and scale up.
- Always be kind – It should be stressed that to be respected, you must respect others. Kindness and understanding the frame of reference of others can go a long way. Check your ego at the door!
