After his own disappointing experience, Jonathan Charles founded Carnivalist, a tech-based company that enables masqueraders to easily participate in Caribbean carnivals around the world.

While looking for new music, he came across Machel Montano’s Temperature and fell in love with the upbeat nature of Soca Music.

While researching the history of music and culture, he discovered that there is an experience associated with the music known as Carnival.

Charles attributes much of his success to his parents, who immigrated to the United States from Haiti. Growing up, he saw his father wash dishes while attending full-time school. His father went on to work as a CFO at various companies.

He also saw his mother work full-time as a nurse’s aide while attending cosmology school. Charles didn’t start learning about technology until his father bought a family computer. At the age of 12, he launched Blazinringers.com, a ringtone website for T-Mobile Sidekicks. This enabled him to earn $2-$5k per month through Google Adsense.

He is currently employed as a Technical Delivery Manager and has over a decade of IT experience. Though the transition from employee to the employer has its challenges, his transition to founding a tech company was smooth in many ways and has helped him understand more about what’s going on at the software code and infrastructure levels.

Carnivalist has recently established a customer service center in Kingston, Jamaica. They launched their first revenue stream in 2021. Since then, the company has assisted its clients in processing more than $4.5 million via the platform.
