Sheen Magazine had the pleasure to speak with entrepreneur and mother Courtney Smith on her latest successful business “Cristina’s Curls.” Check out this exclusive interview below.
Courtney, how did you get the spark to start your business and become an entrepreneur?
What sparked me to start Cristina’s Curls, is when my daughter Cristina began suffering from cradle cap/ eczema, and nothing the doctors were giving us, was working. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands.
How did the birth of your daughter Cristina change your life?
Cristina’s birth changed my life in many ways. For one, she was my third child, so I knew from past experiences with my oldest two, that I had to advocate for her and not just go with whatever the doctors said. Unfortunately, they are not always right or always know what’s best for your child.
When did you know Cristina’s Curls was going to take off to the next level?
I knew Cristina’s Curls was going to take off to the next level when videos from complete strangers on TicTok we’re going viral. It all happened so fast, but I knew then, that I was on to something great.

What is your favorite product that you’ve created?
My favorite product so far is the Nourishing Baby Shampoo and Bodywash. It was the very first product I made and it continues to provide amazing results for Cristina and thousands of other children. It is a staple product to have.

Was your main focus for your business always centered around helping children?
Yes. The main focus was always centered around helping children. It was my child who inspired me to start it and seeing other children benefit greatly from the results, is what keeps us going.
If you could have any child celebrity collaborate with you and or endorse your product(s), who would it be and why?
If I could have any child celebrity endorse or collaborate with us, it would definitely be Beyonce’s twins. I mean who would not want to collab with the Carter Twins LOL!
Where does your passion and drive come from? Has anyone inspired you to get to this point of your career?
My passion comes from doing what I love. Skincare and beauty have always been my first love. I am a licensed Esthetician and a former spa owner. One person who has definitely inspired me is Monique Rodriquez, founder of Mielle. I’ve followed her story for 9 years and to see where she started verses where is she is today, is beyond inspiring.
Where do you see yourself and your business within the next five years?
In five years, I see Cristina’s Curls sold worldwide and in retail stores all over.
