Even at a young age, aspiring entrepreneur TakeyGlam had an interest in fashion. When she was just 12 years old, she passed around sketching designs to her 6th grade class. And although they were only “semi-good”, according to the young entrepreneur, she never gave up her favorite way to express herself through trendy clothes and unique fashion. Today the motivated entrepreneur is the owner of TakeyGlam Apparel.

We loved learning more about this young fashion guru, her brand, and plans for her new clothing line!

Tell us a little bit about your background?

I am TakeyGlam, I’m 26 years old, and I started the online retail store, ‘Takey Glam Apparel,’ for women that will be launching on March 19th, 2021 just in time for spring break.

Tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur?

I became a business owner to inspire others and have freedom over my life – freedom from micromanagement from jobs that I am passionate about, financial freedom, and most importantly having the freedom and ability to service others and make their lives better. I help others improve their appearance, feel beautiful in their skin, and be comfortable with their bodies by supplying them with affordable high quality, trendy clothing.

As a black woman entrepreneur, what difficulties did you face that has helped shape your success and what advice would you give anyone who wants to be a successful entrepreneur?

This is not the first time I have actually started my business. Fun fact, it was actually a completely different name at first. The first time, I struggled with finding the proper knowledge and tools to really make my vision for my store come alive. I’ve learned that starting a business is all about trial and error.  I went to school at the University of Mississippi for four years and struggled with completing. I didn’t give up because I thought it was the only way to be successful. When I turned 24, I recognized that other female entrepreneurs around my age were living their best lives. I was inspired to start my own business! Whenever I dress up, l feels confident and ready to take on the world. It’s immensely powerful.

How are you holding up during this pandemic?

I have not missed a beat during this pandemic! In fact, I had a lot of time to plan for the launch of ‘TakeyGlam Apparel.’ However, I dislike that our country is experiencing troubling times right now; we have lost so many people due to Covid-19, and my heart goes out to the loved ones of the individuals who lost their lives.

Do you have any advice for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

My first piece of advice for anyone wanting to become an entrepreneur is to absolutely 100% believe in yourself. I’m a small-town girl from Carrollton, Mississippi—if I can take the initiative to elevate and inspire others even facing certain adversities in my life—so can you! Put yourself around genuine people who want to see you flourish and understand business. Also, find a good business mentor to show you the ropes. I recommend joining Clubhouse because there are people who drop gems on there for free if you cannot afford to pay for coaching.

Is there anything you’d like to tell us as far as your future plans?

My plan is to eventually branch into having clothes and accessories made for female canines. I am a dog mom myself, and sometimes I dress up in cute little clothes. I know there are other dog moms who do the same!

Keep up with this exciting new entrepreneur and all of her latest fashion designs here, Facebook, and Instagram.
