Yesterday, some of the most admirable entertainers attended the Met Gala in New York. In support of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, the Met Gala 2025 dress code was Tailored for You. This theme inspired some of the most creative tailoring looks to date, making “Best Dressed” a nearly impossible decision for fashion critics.
On this night, red carpet arrivals were bombarded with culture, high fashion, and creativity. Evening gowns and tailored suits gave birth to what I like to call tailored gowns. Every celebrity in attendance embraced the theme with their own unique approach.
If you missed it, let me highlight some of my favorite exhibits of the night.

Teyana Taylor (or should I say Teyana Tailored) graced the red carpet in a custom pinstripe suit and extravagant padded cape with award-winning detailing by the legendary Ruth E. Carter. The concept? Harlem.
Her look was completed with a large, padded red cape bearing the words “Harlem Rose” stitched into the train. Other striking details included a large red flower on the right side, silver flower lapel pins on the left, red leather gloves, a bright red cane, and a fedora with a matching feather trailing from the back. She finished the look with David Yurman jewelry. This was hands down one of my top picks.

But the creative conservative in Coco Jones’ attire brought a different kind of excitement to fashion for me. I loved the simplicity of a slicked-back ponytail, extended with a jumbo braid that swept the floor and complemented the long train of her two-piece tailored suit.
The low-cut cream-colored suit jacket featured intricate lace embroidery and was adorned with pearls, adding a stunning “wow” factor to an already classy look. It takes a natural beauty to make such a bold yet graceful statement. Her look was designed by Manish Malhotra and paired with Jimmy Choo shoes.
I was ready to name her Best Dressed almost immediately—until the André 3000 fan in me got a little biased.
André 3000 wore a bespoke boilersuit embroidered with umbrellas, layered with a twisted bolero and a striped rugby top, all while casually carrying a baby grand piano on his back—styled to perfection by Law Roach. His ingenious concept of fashion and performance art not only challenges boundaries, it evokes thought and pure excitement.
His fashion statement didn’t end at the red carpet. The brilliance of dropping a piano album that same night was groundbreaking. He took to Instagram to explain the rawness of the music, calling it “the best worst rap album” because it had no lyrics.

I was also loving Ms. Lauryn Hill’s pale yellow suit during her first-ever Met Gala debut, Rihanna’s radiant glow with her baby bump, and Ciara and Russell Wilson exuding nothing but Black excellence.
So many displayed fashion, creativity, and culture at the highest level—but the biggest statement of the night undoubtedly goes to André 3000.
