To secure soft and supple lips this Valentine’s Day weekend (and beyond), ditch the habit of neglecting your lip care routine. Like the rest of your face, your lips need proper maintenance to look and feel their best. Lip skin is thinner and more delicate than most areas on the face, plus lips don’t have oil glands, which is why they commonly result in becoming dull and chapped. So, whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s, Galentine’s, or Single’s Awareness Day, get luscious and kissable lips with our four simple steps and budget-friendly lip faves under $5 to moisturize and hydrate during the dry winter months.

Here’s how:

Step One: Clean. Wipe off all of the lip products from your lips! While the skin repairs and refreshes itself overnight, left-on lipstick can result in extremely dry lips. Simply remove makeup from the lips with a cleansing makeup wipe, or baby oil and a cotton pad for a gentler makeup remover.

Step Two: Exfoliate. Lip exfoliation removes dead skin, minimizes discoloration, and increases circulation improving the lip’s health and texture. I added the Paw Paw: Sweet Pout Sugar Lip Scrub to my lip routine, and I’m so glad that I did. For super soft and nourished lips, this scrub is made with real sugar, and an olive oil and shea butter formula. On clean, dry lips apply the lip scrub and gently exfoliate in circular motions for 30 seconds. Wipe away the excess with a damp towel, then apply lip balm to seal and hydrate the lips. This sugar lip scrub is also the perfect prep for a smooth lipstick application. To avoid over-exfoliation, don’t exfoliate more than three times a week.

Step Three: Mask. The lip care doesn’t stop after exfoliation…Lock in moisture while you sleep! The AOA Studio Paw Paw JelliJam Lip Sleeping Mask is a leave-on lip mask that soothes and moisturizes for smoother, more supple lips in the morning. Infused with Aloe Leaf Extract, the mask creates a protective film over the lips. A generous layer of this soothing mask at bedtime helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and pillow soft. This lip mask can also be used during the day for an ultra-hydrating balm.

Step Four: Hydrate. Seal your pout with a non-irritating lip balm to protect your lips throughout the day. Lip balms serve as a barrier from environmental factors like winter winds, and help relieve irritation or dryness. With a hydrating lip balm on the outside and a smooth, pigmented lipstick on the inside, the A+ Balmshell Lip Stick gives the best of both worlds. This super cute, sparkly balm and creamy lipstick duo is 100% Vegan and brings all-day moisture with a subtle, sheer color.
