You can’t have a conversation about the GOATS in hip-hop without including Rakim. Most notably known for being one-half of legendary rap duo Eric B. & Rakim, the New York native is probably in your favorite rapper’s Top 5… and he has the catalog to prove it. Rakim isn’t nicknamed The God MC for nothing, and he set the bar for MCs all around the world.

On Friday, August 20th, Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff (another legend) took the stage at 1720 at PANIC IN L.A., with the description reading “We’re coming out of hibernation with a big one; Rakim performing LIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER with DJ Jazzy Jeff.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff exploded onto the scene also as one-half of a duo, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, alongside Will Smith, debuting his skillsets as an expert mixer and turntablist. Entering the venue, you were immediately hit with the humidity in the room: the venue was packed! From the day one fans to the hip-hop heads, this felt like a true East Coast show, with everyone in the building excited to see their favorite rapper and DJ duo.

Jazzy Jeff sported a black tee, black sweats, and white Yeezys, while Rakim stepped out with his NY snapback, navy blue tracksuit, and of course, the long chains that hung around his neck. The synergy on the stage was priceless, with both Jazzy and Rakim delivering nothing but praise for each other. Rakim performed all the crowd favorites, including “Move the Crowd,” “I Know You Got Soul,” “Juice,” and last but not least, “Paid In Full.”

The show closed out with Rakim thanking Los Angeles for the love. He also disclosed that him and Jazzy have been locked in the studio working on some joints… which may or may not be on his forthcoming album!
