On Friday, June 23, 2021 tennis star Naomi Osaka had the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron to begin the Olympic games.

Swimming, gymnastics, basketball, soccer, track and field, and tennis are few games that the world watches together. Just like track and field, gymnastics is one of the top events that are watched during the Olympics.

Simone Biles was named to the team for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, alongside Gabby DouglasLaurie HernandezMadison Kocian, and Aly Raisman.

Since 2016, Biles has been dominating the floor and showing no signs of slowing down. In 2020 Biles did not compete due to concerns around the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 virus, but 2021 was her year, and she was ready.

Biles had a few stumbles and out-of-bounds penalties that did reflect on her overall score. Nevertheless, she was ready to prepare for the finals.

Unfortunately, news broke that Simone Biles withdrew from the final Tokyo Olympics Team due to a medical condition.

While fans were concerned due to a stumble she had, most were not convinced. Hours later, another statement was made that a coach clarified that Simone Biles is not injured but having “mental health issues” leading to her withdrawal from the final team competition at the Olympics.

Mental health has been an important conversation before the Olympics as Naomi Osaka quit the French Open after a news conference dispute.

Many fans gather together on social media to express their concerns for the American gymnast. Many believe the Olympics just wasn’t for the US this year as many conspiracies have been rumored.

As for Simone, she is unsure if she will be competing in the Olympics moving forward.
