Abstract Orchestra and Young RJ one half of the legendary hip hop group Slum Village and Grammy-nominated producer, releases a complete rendition of the Classic, Fantastic Vol. 2 album, produced by Jay Dee, aka J Dilla. Abstract Orchestra, an 18 piece band replays Slum Village’s Vol. 2, in honour of their 20th-Anniversary release, “Fantastic 2020 V. 1 & V. 2” as a tribute to the original founding members T3 and the late J Dilla and Baatin.
The project and assembly of workmanship came together during Slum Village’s & Abstract Orchestra’s 2019 tour, introduced by Slum Village’s Manager. Young RJ, member, and producer of Slum Village joined by Rob Mitchell, bandleader for Abstract Orchestra took the introduction and began recording the project. Abstract Orchestra has three studio albums, ‘Dilla,’ ‘MADVILLAIN Vol. 1,’ ‘MADVILLAIN Vol. 2,’ and a single release ‘New Day’ ft. Illa J. They have supported Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and toured with Illa J and Slum Village.
The 18 piece all-star big band, creates unique music that is both heavy and beautiful, pushing the boundaries of live hip-hop. The band includes musicians that have toured with some of the top acts in the world including Jamiroquai, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, John Legend & The Roots, Roots Manuva, Rag ’n’ bone Man, Adele, Estelle, and Lily Allen. Along with their original work, Abstract Orchestra is well known for its masterful reinterpretations of hip-hop classics by legends that include J Dilla and MADVILLAIN, diversifying ways in which hip-hop can be enjoyed.
