Southern Crescent Women In Business has marked 2020 as a year to grow bigger and to pivot. “The pandemic only revealed the inequities among women owned and minority owned businesses,” says Shaw, “…and we want to help.” Southern Crescent Women In Business, founded by local business woman, Ariel Shaw, MBA, has established the first Women’s Business Center South of Atlanta, the Southern Crescent Women Business Center. Southern Crescent Women In Business Inc consists of women owned businesses and women in business primarily in Henry County, Clayton County, Fayette County, and South Dekalb County. As the mission states, the mission for Southern Crescent Women in Business is simple, we must unequivocally foster business relationships to help sustain and grow our business and local economies.
The Southern Crescent Women In Business Center is positioned to lead in the region to assist in training female entrepreneurs and women in business. According to Shaw, “We are here to help transform the economic landscape on the Southside of the Atlanta Metro Region and throughout the surrounding region.” The Women’s Business Center is located at 125 Westridge Industrial Blvd, Suite 300, McDonough GA 30253.
The Women’s Center plans to hosts monthly programming to help women who are starting or looking to exponentially grow their business. With a 10-week curriculum designed specifically for women-owned businesses to receive foundational training. There will also be additional programming for those interested in contracting, logistics, trade and more. Founder, Ariel Shaw, states “We are so excited about this opportunity to expand our reach in this region.” Shaw hopes to reach those who are in more rural areas in Spalding, even expanding to the Macon-Bibb area. With supporters such as local community bank, Heritage Bank, the Women’s Business Center is looking to attract more supporters to help this demographic, as women-owned businesses are still the fastest growing sector of entrepreneurs, but still the most underfunded. Underfunding, a topic that Shaw addresses in upcoming 2021 Legislature.
