Formally called the Costume Institute Gala, the Met Gala is themed each year to celebrate the opening of that year’s Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Celebrity and high power guests are expected to curate haute couture looks to set the tone. This year’s concept was deemed In America: An Anthology of Fashion followed by a “Gilded Glamour” theme. Meaning, an ode to the United States Gilded Age which was a period of rapid economic growth from 1870 to 1900. During this era corsets, gloves, puff shoulders, tea gowns, and fascinators (tea party hats) were worn. For men, Gilded Age fashion included multi piece suits accessorized with pocket watches, canes and handkerchiefs. So, who did their research and nailed this year’s theme?
