A Story of a Media Dynamo with a Global Vision

In the dynamic world of media entrepreneurship, one name stands out glaringly, and that name is Toyosi Etim-Effiong. With years of diverse experience spanning both the Nigerian and U.S. media landscapes, Toyosi has become an innovator, advocating for the authentic representation of African stories on a global stage.

The Journey of a Well-Rounded Visionary

Toyosi’s journey is a fascinating story of growth and discovery. From weekends in Amukoko, singing Salawa Abeni’s tunes, to rubbing shoulders with the elite at Corona V/I, her childhood exposed her to the stark contrasts of society. This unique upbringing cultivated a well-rounded perspective, allowing her to empathize with people from all walks of life.

As she navigated through her multifaceted career, Toyosi quickly realized that her passion lay in media. From starting as an internal auditor at a bank to becoming the Global Director of Content for the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD), and later the COO of Folio.NG, she embraced every opportunity for growth.

Bridging the Global Gap in Nollywood

Toyosi is not just a media entrepreneur; she’s a groundbreaker committed to bridging the gap between Nollywood and the global film and TV industry. Her company, That Good Media, actively seeks partnerships to showcase the best of Nollywood internationally. Through strategic collaborations and partnerships, she envisions elevating Nollywood to global prominence.

One remarkable achievement was Nigeria Day at the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans, where Nollywood took center stage. Toyosi facilitated an entire day dedicated to showcasing Nigerian talent, fostering connections between Nollywood stakeholders and their global counterparts.

Lessons from a Decade of Media Mastery

Reflecting on her 10 years in the industry, Toyosi emphasizes the importance of continuous learning. From her early days at Sahara Reporters to working with major media outlets like NdaniTV, ARISE News, and Folio.NG, she’s embraced each experience as an opportunity to grow.

Nurturing Authentic Friendships and Unveiling Untapped Nollywood Opportunities

Beyond her media endeavors, Toyosi runs ‘The Good Friend Zone,’ a thriving community supporting millennials in cultivating genuine friendships. She envisions a Nollywood with endless possibilities, from more screens and world-class studios to comprehensive training programs for actors, writers, and crew members.

A Message to the Nigerian Government and the Global Audience

To the Nigerian government, Toyosi humbly calls for an enabling environment for Nollywood’s growth, emphasizing the need for accountability in intervention funds. She urges the government to recognize Nollywood’s potential to shape global perspectives and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

To sum it all up, she sells Nollywood to the world as the second-largest movie industry globally, attracting major streamers who recognize its unique essence. The industry, doing wonders with limited resources, beckons global partners to witness its untapped potential.

Toyosi Etim-Effiong is more than a media entrepreneur; she is a force shaping the narrative of African storytelling on the world stage. Her journey is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to dream big and work tirelessly to bring those dreams to life.
