The romantic thriller held its star-studded debut at the SVA Theater in New York City.

The Blaxploitation-inspired movie starring Pam Grier (Coffy, Jackie Brown) and Damon Wayans (In Living Color, My Wife and Kids) and executive produced by long-time director, Oz Scott (Black Lightning, The Jeffersons) and basketball legend, Kevin Garnett, had its first screening in downtown Manhattan ahead of its June 23rd streaming premiere.

The heist film, which serves as writer/director, Bryian Keith Montgomery Jr.’s first full-length movie, mixes the romance and suspense of “A Bronx Tale” with the butt-kicking action of Blaxploitation and noir films. And whether it was intended or not, those inspirations pay perfect homage to Bronx Tale star, Robert De Niro, who is also the creator of the Tribeca Film Festival, and Pam Grier, the film’s star and Blaxploitation legend and female action hero pioneer.

The film stars Hailey Kilgore and David Iacono, who give masterful, heart-wrenching performances as young lovers desperately trying to make a better life for themselves. In the process of trying to create a brighter future they end up crossing scary, mob-like, mother-and-son duo played wonderfully by Grier and New York native Jeremie Harris (Legion). Damon Wayans brings comedic gold to the film as shady gas station owner and budding entrepreneur, Wally. The film does a great job of creating a thrilling, modern-day noir film that also, as filmmaker Montgomery shared, “adds a layer of heart”.

The hour-and-a-half, tear-jerker, edge-of-your-seat thriller and love story, streams on Tubi beginning June 23rd. Check out the trailer below and watch some of our red-carpet interviews with the stars on Sheen’s Instagram page.
