You just have to know how to maneuver through certain things, and be able to manifest what you know and what you are capable of.

Timeekah “Murp” Murphy established her signature label, Alani Taylor in 2016. Her current pieces feature a futuristic kind of look that she showcased at Los Angeles Fashion Week. The one of a kind designer recently had a discussion with SHEEN about her brand, her biggest challenges, and her ultimate goal for Alani Taylor.

When did you first realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?

I was in the Army for 12 years and my last duty station was in Fort Hood, Texas. I realized that I wanted to design when I walked in the mall and saw that everybody was wearing the same thing. Being from up north, I had my own style. I started making my own clothes. I would take t-shirts and reconstruct them and people started gravitating to it. I became intrigued by just the art of it and that’s when I realized this is actually something that I love doing.
