As I stepped into the star-studded 66th Annual Grammy Weekend in Los Angeles, I had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Grammy-winning artist Derrick Milano. Derrick’s private invite-only event to celebrate his Grammy nomination was an unforgettable night filled with heartfelt moments at Nova3. The venue was buzzing with excitement as many people from the music industry and beyond gathered to show their love and respect for Derrick. Guests included renowned artists, producers, and music enthusiasts, all coming together honor Derrick’s talent and his tremendous success. The atmosphere was electric, with music playing, laughter filling the air, and speeches praising Derrick’s contributions to the music world. It was a night to remember, reflecting the deep admiration and support that Derrick Milano has garnered throughout his career.

During my conversation with Grammy-winning Derrick Milano, I was struck by the magnitude of his impact on the music industry. Billboard has called him, “Hip-Hop’s favorite secret weapon” and I can clearly see why. Derrick spoke on his journey and said, “I’ve always done music and I’ve put my artistry first. My parents always encouraged me to play basketball, be in chorus, play football, do soccer, do this…so I’ve always had my hands in multiple things. My Mom told me to get into songwriting, and it’s probably one of the best decisions I’ve made.” His work has not only captivated audiences worldwide but has served as an inspiration for countless aspiring artists. He has a very long list of music credits that range from artists such as, Megan Thee Stallion, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, GloRilla, Nicki Minaj, Babyface, Kevin Gates, Ciara and so many more.

Originally from Philly but raised in Delaware, I asked the musical guru how he brings those east coast elements into the work he does in LA. Derrick explained, “We didn’t really have a headquarters, so everything we had to do was work. We had to expand and do things outside from where we were from. I think for me, it has helped because I’ve realized I am bigger than what people might see me as. To understand that growing up in Delaware and being able to take it all the way out here and spreading it around the world by getting the message out is amazing.” Derrick’s dedication to his craft and his willingness to push boundaries have led the way for innovation the industry. Through music, he has touched the hearts many and continues to be a beacon of creative excellence. His contributions have undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the industry, making him a true trailblazer in the world of music.
