Get ready because The Met Gala is back!

After being cancelled last year, fashion’s biggest night is coming back with two celebrations! The official press release shared by The Metropolitian Museum of Art in New York shared that a “more intimate” gathering will take place on September 13th, 2021. Those that attend this event will be required to wear a mask and provide a proof of vaccination.

This year’s co-chairs include Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman and tennis star Naomi Osaka, while Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, and Anna Wintour will serve as honorary chairs.

The 2022 Met Gala will return with it’s regular schedule, taking place on the first Monady in May, which is May 2nd. Co-chairs for the event next year have not been announced. Each gala will center on a new exhibition from The Costume Institute.

The first will open with the Anna Wintour Costume Center on September 18th, 2021 called, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” It is built around a fictional American house. The press release states that each room of the house will feature examples of the 20th and 21st century fashion that reflect “the customs and behaviors of the imagined occupants,” while focusing on a different emotion.

A film by Melina Matsoukas will be shown in the galleries. The second exhibition titled, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” will open in the American wing period rooms on May 5th, 2022.

The press release reveals that the display will feature “women’s and men’s historical and contemporary dress dating from the 18th century to the present in vignettes installed in select period rooms.”

Exhibitions will run until September 5th, 2022.
