Saturday night celebrities and special invited guests lined up for the screening of The Color Purple on Atlanta. Among the special invited guests was none other than the iconic Louis Gossett, JR. Gossett who just recently won a lifetime achievement award showed up like only he could do; bedecked in the signature color of the night, purple.
Gossett checked in with SHEEN Magazine to weigh in on the remake of this classic Stephen Spielberg film and the remake. The ‘Why Did I Get Married Too’ actor stated that he actually was offered the opportunity to play the character that his best friend once played on broadway and the biggest honor was the fact that his best friend actually gave his blessing for the portrayal before he passed away.
Louis Gossett is best known for his roles in other classic films such as; Toy Soldiers, A Raisin In The Sun, Iron Eagle, and so many more. Gossett also indicated that he had a small role in the 1985 version of The Color Purple, so needless to say this was a full circle moment for him. When asked if he thought this version would be a surprise for the audience, he merely smiled and indicated that the audience is in for a “delightful surprise.”
The Color Purple, which debuts on Christmas Day has a runtime of 2 hours and 35 minutes and is said to leave the audience captivated. We hope you go to your nearest theater and check it out.
